White coup and 50 years of the Republic

 Today, the 17th of July encounter with the coup d’état of Sardar Mohammad Dawood Khan, which is also known as the white coup or the military coup.

Hama News Agency: 50 years before today, on 17th of July, 1973 during a military coup, Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan abolished the royal system and established the republican system.

The coup d’état of 17th of July was launched at night when the then king Muhammad Zahir, the son of Sardar Daud Khan’s uncle, was in Italy.

Dawood Khan ended the royal system in Afghanistan by overthrowing king Mohammad Zahir, his uncle’s son, and in his first radio message, after winning the coup, announced the establishment of the republic and called his victorious coup a Revolution.

Dawood Khan was the founder of the republic and the first president of Afghanistan. He is also considered one of the most powerful rulers of Afghanistan in the last few decades.

During his five-year rule, Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan brought many progressive policies in Afghanistan, such as the plan to modernize Afghanistan, create a women’s movement, layout for economic plans and build large factories.

Sardar Mohammad Dawood Khan was killed on the morning of the 27th of April 1978 with 18 members of his family by the People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan.

It should be mentioned that thirty years after the death of first president of Afghanistan, Dawood Khan, and his family, the Afghan government buried their bodies with official ceremonies during the presidency of Hamid Karzai, in the Taj Beg hill of Dar al-Aman.
